Welcome

Features:

One Window

Stay focused on your song ideas. No more jumping between chord/rhyme dictionaries, audio recorder and midi sequencers. Xsong integrates all these under a simple intuitive environment designed specifically for songwriters. Contrarily to a DAW where looking for a specific idea involves opening one session at a time, Xsong provides access to your whole song portefolio at all time. Xsong is the songwriter partner you wish you always had.

Organize

Being organized is half the battle. Just drop your files (text, audio and MIDI) into Xsong to have them automatically tagged and organized using “quick filters” for tempo, subject matter, title, etc. Use virtual “nails” to associate ideas before turning them into complete songs. Nails provide a form of loose association, which is helpful for trying out new ideas on the fly. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!

Edit

Edit your song using visual songwriting object for song sections (intro, verse, chorus, etc.) chords, rhymes and melodies. The heart of every good song is the interplay between the lyrics, vocal melodies and the chords that supports them. Through its unique “Vox Line” view, Xsong let you work with all these elements together in the same space. This helps you create more memorable songs.

Rewrites

Songwriting is about rewriting. Xsong allows you to save up to 8 rewrites for every song section. For example, for a given verse, you can save rewrites for different genders, languages, subject matters, chord progressions and melodies. Xsong is the only program that supports both musical and textual rewrites. Any top songwriter will tell you: constant rewrites help turn good songs into a remarkable ones.

Visual Tools

Xsong uses innovative graphical elements instead of traditional music notation. A picture is worth a thousand words, and you’ll communicate your ideas faster. Communicate in the language of songwriters: chords and top lines, bridges, B-sections and climb sections. With Xsong you’re working with clear iconic representations instead of arcane symbols or Greek letters.

Writing Instruments

Write with the instrument you understand best. If you write on guitar, doesn’t it make sense that you should be able to see your ideas on a guitar neck? Of course, and this is why Xsong lets you see chords and melodies overlaid over your favorite writing instrument. Never have to find a guitar voicing on keyboard again. And, yes, we have keyboard too.

Chord Progressions

Turn virtual “barrel wheels” to discover and generate new chord progressions. Building new songs has never been more fun. With eight different methods of finding “next” chord, you will never get stuck again. Quickly move from one key to the next and explore the deep corners of chord theory – without knowing chord theory. Everyone will envy the ease at which you can move through ideas.

Works great with your DAW

Xsong acts as a songwriting “front end” for your DAW: Fine-tune your song structure in Xsong, then export a MIDI and/or audio file to your favorite DAW for use as a scratch track. Whether you are using GarageBand, Logic, Protools or Cakewalk, Xsong helps you get things done without having to save everything into discreet sessions.

Open File Formats

Xsong uses open file formats easily accessible from a plain text editor (.xml, .txt) or other free media playing applications (.wav, .mid, .aiff, etc.). What this means is that you are not locked to one solution or platform. In 5-10 years, you’ll still be able to access your data, using the software you have at your disposal.

GPU Accelerated

Did you know you had a super-computer inside your graphic card? It’s called a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU for short) and it’s normally used to draw complex games and scientific simulations. Xsong uses OpenGL, to provide smooth accelerated graphics. This means that Xsong’s never gets bogged down, even when dealing with complex data. “Songwriting” is now your newest favorite game!

Xsong for Windows will be released in the summer of 2008. Xsong for Mac OS-X will be released shortly afterward. Thank you for your patience.
